Little Black Box Sam's Toybox Homepage

I've started selling some of my toys & collectibles.

The Little Black Box by Poynter Products is a very cool battery operated novelty that basically does nothing. Turn the lever on, the box moves around a bit and the green hand eventually comes out and turns the lever back off! How cool is that! According to an article on Don Poynter, the toy's creator, ABC wanted to use the black box on the Addams Family but Don sold them the rights to the coin grabbing bank version which was packaged as The Thing. My copy of the Little Black Box is dated 1959 and The Thing is dated 1964. A later version of the toy looked better with a flesh colored hand and a knob and base on the lever. The Little Black Box page in the Grand Illusions toy collection features the newer 1980s version and I've embedded their video of it in action below. Way cool.

Other Poynter Products novelties in my collection: The Crushing Beer Can, The Great American Con Machine, The Post Mistress and The Texas Telephone. The most famous toy from Poynter is Uncle Fester's Light Bulb (#Ad), a toy I'll likely never afford.
