Sam's Teardrop - Parts & AccessoriesBack to Sam's Teardrop Page

I've been collecting parts for the teardrop since mid-February. I'm attempting to build my trailer as cheaply as possible and am always on the lookout for a deal. Here are some of the parts I've collected so far.

This is a pair of thermopane tinted RV windows that I picked up on eBay. They are used but in excellent shape. They are sized for 2 inch thick walls, thicker than my doors will be so I'm going to have to frame them somehow. Beside the windows is a 12V jump starter/power supply I picked up at Harbor Freight. This will serve as my power supply until I get a battery.

Cost: $174.15 delivered (windows)
Cost: $19.95 + tax (12V supply)

I've been looking at roof vents with fans for quite a while and really like the Fantastic Vent. This one, a Model 5000R, has three speeds, is reversible, and has a thermostat that will shut off the fan when a desired temperature is reached. The eBay seller, rvrevive is an RV Salvage company and said it came out of an Airstream. You can still see part of that Airstream attached to my fan! Fantastic Fan 5000R - underside
The smoked plastic top of the fan has seen better days. It looks like it may have had tree sap drip on it and bake in the hot sun. I'll try to polish it with some plexiglas scratch remover.

Cost: $125.18 delivered

The place where I work has a bi-weekly newspaper into which employees can place free classified ads. This Coleman stove was for sale in one of those ads and I snapped it up immediately.

Cost: $10.00

I liked the retro look of this 100th Anniversary Coleman Stainless Steel cooler but didn't like the price: $100.00 through walmart.com. Off to eBay I went and picked this one up for $31.00 + $28.00 shipping from a seller who specializes in close-out and returned merchandise. The auction said it may have "minor scratches and imperfections." It turned out the imperfections were a bit more than minor. I fired off a scathing email to the seller. They offered to refund my money or give a partial refund if I wished to purchase a new lid. The seller refunded $27.00, the cost of a new lid but Coleman sent me one for free!

Cost: $29.00 delivered (after refund)

I had planned to put a car stereo (for AM/FM) and a 9 inch TV/DVD/CD/MP3 player in the tear. In looking through eBay I discovered this puppy by Virgin Pulse which not only has the TV/DVD/CD/MP3 but also an AM/FM tuner. It has a 10.4 inch LCD screen, operates on 110V or 12V and has a carrying case that lets you mount it between your car seats. Target.com sells this model for $449.00 + $50.00 for the carrying case. Some careful eBay bidding netted me this one (on the third auction, I lost the first two) though I'm still trying to purchase a remote which was missing. I'll run a pair of speakers into the galley off of the A/V output jacks so we can have some music while parked.

Update: Virgin Pulse, aka Virgin Electronics went belly-up in March, 2005. Unless an eBay miracle occurs I'll not ever have a remote for this system.

Cost: $190.00 delivered (with carrying case)

Some miscellaneous parts. Three lighted RV switches from ebay seller okok90. The bags are stainless steel sheet metal screws, #6x3/4 flat, #6x3/4 pan, #8x3/4 pan, all from ebay seller Jim's Marine Auto and Electrical. The circuit board fuse block came from All Electronics Corp.. I bought two of these, one for my teardrop and one for my B9 Robot project.

Cost: $8.77 delivered (lighted switches)
Cost: $14.50 delivered (two fuse blocks)
Cost: $27.40 delivered (600 stainless screws)

Perhaps you all know about the "culled lumber" section in your local Home Depot, I did not until about a month ago. It seems that Home Depot cuts lumber for folks or other purposes and sells the leftover pieces cheap: $.51 each. Normally the lumber will be less than 4 feet in length. It is hit or miss as to what they will have but in less than a month I've amassed enough 1x3, 1x4, 1x6 to frame my walls, enough 2x4s for floor framing, and enough 1/2 plywood to build under floor storage areas for around $20.00. Woo Hoo.

Cost: $.51 each + tax

A dear friend of mine had this camper sitting beside her house for a few years and her son who was supposed to be restoring it never worked on it. She gave it to me. Here are the rest of the pictures. I brought the bugger home on my Harbor Freight 1175# utility trailer! There are many parts I will rob for the tear and I plan to sell off the rest. Thanks so much Candy!

Here is a receiver hitch and safety chain rings that I'll be welding on the bottom of the chassis. Handy for bike racks, storage boxes/shelves, and perhaps to hook the JetSki trailer to if I ever need to double tow. Purchased at a local store called Central Trailer Supply.

Cost: $14.55
