Stardust "Touch of Velvet Art" by numbers is a cool old art toy from Hasbro. The sets featured many popular characters from TV and animation including my Mickey Mouse version, Item 2805 and my Batman version, Item 2809. Other sets I've seen or heard tell of but do not yet own include The Green Hornet, Superman, Mary Poppins, Tarzan, Flipper, Popeye, The Munsters and Bonanza. Each set contains two pictures which were sticky paper and six vials of different colored flockings. One would peel off the backing paper one section at a time, starting with the darkest color, and sprinkle the velvet flocking on. Just like paint by numbers but in Velvet! How cool is that. My Batman set came later as Hasbro saved some money by packing the flocking into plastic bags instead of vials with lids. Missing one of my Batman pictures and the one I have still has the backing in place though it isn't sticking very well in places. No date on my boxes but the toy was available during most of the 1960s.
